With days to go before voters in New York’s 26th District fill the vacancy in their U.S. House seat, guessing is rising among Republicans and Democrats and in the press that the outcome of the contest could be for Democrats what Scott Brown’s win in the Massachusetts Senate race in 2010 was for the Republicans.
With a week to go until the May 24 special election in New York’s open 26th C.D., Democrat Kathy Hochul now looks well-positioned to pull off a significant upset.
It appears at least one more debate will take place in the contest for the 26th Congressional District before the May 24 special election.
It is a special election that was never supposed to be this close. But outside groups have begun pouring money into New York’s 26th district, a conservative region near the Empire State’s western border that has become an unlikely battlefield in a new age of political influence.
