Tea party group slams Occupy Wall Street; arrests grow

By James Oliphant, Los Angeles Times

As the Occupy Wall Street movement continues to spread—with massive arrests Monday night in Boston—the tea party wants you to know that the progressive protests have nothing in common with its own grass-roots effort.

First, the arrests: About 100 people were arrested by police Monday evening in Boston, according to local news affiliates, after they refused to leave an off-limits area outside of the Dewey Square section of the city. Local representatives of the intentionally disorganized movement said the police overreacted. The police claimed that “anarchists” had seized control of the demonstrations.

Meanwhile, in New York City, where all of this started, protesters are planning to march on the homes of News Corp.’s Rupert Murdoch and tea party backer David Koch, TPM reports.

They also may target the homes of JPMorgan Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon, real estate developer Howard Milstein and hedge fund manager John Paulson.

The protests to date have largely been confined to Lower Manhattan, but the demonstrations, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, will mark a thrust into Midtown. (It also won’t be a great time for non-protesters to take the subway.)

On Monday, New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said the protesters could remain camped in the park near Wall Street, where they have been stationed for weeks, as long as they wanted. But it remains to be seen how the city reacts to the Midtown march.

  1. The deemer minnions grow weary and restless with each passing day, the lackof sleep, the poor food and the exposure to the elements on a daily basis and no real idea as to why they are there is taking it’s toll.

The premise that these lost and uninformed souls are in someway akin to the Tea Party is really a stretch of the absurd and a poor way to try and give this great unwashed circus some credit. They have done nothing but show up for the purpose of being used by the very people who are holding the economy of this nation hostage with a socialistic communist agenda that would make anyone dispise their repression of human achievement this country has managed and will continue to do so. We as a nation are so much better than they can even imagine or want.

  3. It is unfortunate that 42,000 businesses fled the USA during the Bush-Cheney years to avoid paying any taxes; but we can’t blame any Administration or Congress. Although both Bush & Obama could have let Wall Street and businesses fail; allowing capitalism to regain to footing as in the Great Depression. The other unfortunate part of the last 20 years or so, College Graduates has an eighth grade education with training to pass State and Federal standardized requirements; not teaching entrepreneurial thinking. Smart and Creative millionaire and billionaire drop out of college or university; and when Ivy League educated help is required they contract for it. The Gods help those that can really help them as good servant to the Lords and Ladies of Means. Have a check-up from the neck-up and run for State or Federal Office, where your training will educate you more over time.
