Beck and Breitbart coming to Chicago area for TEACON 2011

Former Fox television commentator Glenn Beck will be among the headliners this month when tea party supporters gather in Illinois to hold the Midwest Tea Party convention in Schaumburg, officials announced Monday.

The event, dubbed TeaCon 2011, also will play host to activist Andrew Breitbart and others on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at the Schaumburg Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center, officials said.

“While Glenn Beck is no longer on Fox, you’ll have a chance to see him live and in person at TeaCon,” Chicago Tea Party Director Steve Stevlic said in a statement. “The venue will allow people to get more up close and personal with Glenn.”

The convention is sponsored by the Chicago Tea Party, WIND-AM 560, the Illinois Tea Party and ChampionNews.net, officials said.

“TeaCon is designed by grass-roots tea party groups for grass-roots tea party members. Every session is designed for regular people who want to make a difference in the 2012 election. They’re going to leave with the knowledge, tools and skills to do just that,” Stevlic said.

Supporters will be able to attend educational sessions designed to train tea party activists.

Among the sessions available, the “Citizen Track” will focus on helping activists become better informed on policy issues. The “Patriot Track” will focus on helping people become more effective activists. The “Leadership Track,” which is designed for organizers and leaders of the tea party movement, will focus on helping people become more effective leaders, organizers said.
