Obama Administration to Ban Asthma Inhalers Over Environmental Concerns

By MARK HEMINGWAY, The Weekly Standard

Remember how Obama recently waived new ozone regulations at the EPA because they were too costly? Well, it seems that the Obama administration would rather make people with Asthma cough up money than let them make a surely inconsequential contribution to depleting the ozone layer:

Asthma patients who rely on over-the-counter inhalers will need to switch to prescription-only alternatives as part of the federal government’s latest attempt to protect the Earth’s atmosphere.

The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday patients who use the epinephrine inhalers to treat mild asthma will need to switch by Dec. 31 to other types that do not contain chlorofluorocarbons, an aerosol substance once found in a variety of spray products.

The action is part of an agreement signed by the U.S. and other nations to stop using substances that deplete the ozone layer, a region in the atmosphere that helps block harmful ultraviolet rays from the Sun.

  1. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, who prescribes inhalers, I can tell you that the worst thing to date the FDA did was banning CFCs from inhalers. the new ones don’t WORK as well, which has led to deaths from asthma complications. If the OTC inhalers are banned, it is not that big a deal because they don’t work well anyway, but the older CFC Albuterol inhalers were a lot better. Does the FDA understand that people with asthma are needlessly suffering and dying because of their power – mad adherence to the MYTH of global warming?

  2. As an asthma patient for over 55 years, I can truthfully say that Judith J. is correct–the newer inhalers (prescription) DO NOT work as well as the ones with CFCs. Thankfully, I do not need my rescue inhaler very often, but when I do, I like to feel that I’m actually getting my medicine. FDA, EPA, Obama, whoever—Having an ozone layer doesn’t matter if you can’t breathe!

    • I too have been an asthma patient for over 50 yrs. Spring and Fall my allergy doctor said, “I don’t know how your living”. I have to use my rescue inhalers many more times than the rest of the year. I have been changed over to the NoN-CFC inhalers for about a year now and I have to agree, they don’t work as well. I find I have to use them more often especially in the spring and fall. The containers are also much smaller and more expensive since they can’t be the generic. I agree with Judith and Sean. Who cares about the ozone when you can’t breathe it won’t matter.

  3. People need to let their candidates know how they feel about the UN. We need (us, USA) along with Israel to pull out which will stop the funding (us being the largest funder). Anyone else who wants to join us are more then welcome. The UN is nothing but dictators, thugs and terroists.
Remember that Agenda21 is UN sponsored. Read up on Agenda 21, those of you that don’t know about it. They are using the environmental issues in order to control every state at the local levels, city, county and state.
